Often when I create a resource or product, it has been out of necessity. It is often because I haven’t been able to find something that I actually need for my own classes, school staff and students. It also just happens to be that, when I create a resource, it spurs my creative juices in other directions and other resources are then made to fill another need!

The Piano and Other Keyboard Instruments Mini Unit of Work is a great little unit where your students will learn about the Piano and other types of keyboards such as the organ and harpsichord. It features the Super Six Reading Strategies and is a great introduction for students before they start performing on a piano themselves. Now this is perfectly paired with the Piano and Other Keyboards Bulletin Board Kit. In the kit you will find posters of the notes on the stave, alphabet bunting, I can statements, borders, chord posters, notes on the keyboard posters and scales!!! these are all printer friendly and the best part is that because they are in black and white, if you print onto colored paper, they can match you classroom decor perfectly.

The second little perfect pair are the Instruments of the Orchestra Unit of Work and the Instruments of the Orchestra Bulletin Board Kit. The Unit of Work is a great unit that I have taught for a number of years, and I do because the students love it and so do I! It usually takes me a term to teach this unit and it has everything that you need – Super Six Reading Strategies, Assignment, Marking Rubrics and listening activities for each part of the unit. The learning is reinforced when you have the Instruments of the Orchestra Bulletin Board Kit in display. The kit contains borders, alphabet bunting, instrument bunting, families borders, small instrument pictures (great for cooperative learning, coloring and more) and large instrument pictures.

The fourth little pair are another great set that helps to reinforce the learning going on in your classroom. The Pioneers of Rock, with Super Six Reading Strategies, is a fantastic favourite of both mine and my students. I loooove teaching this unit!!! It is just a great way to teach your students about where most modern music came from – 1950’s Rock and Roll. The Pioneers of Rock Musician Study has been a great addition to my teaching this year. I created this because I needed to extend some students and give them the opportunity to learn and research in an independent way. This set of Musician Study pages is perfect for this- students choose a musician, research them and complete the activity. It would also be great for cooperative learning, a pre-writing activity or as an assignment, the choice is yours. They do look great completed, colored in and displayed on the walls too.

This last little perfect pairing is another favourite of mine. The Kings and Queens of Rock and Pop is a perennial popular product in my classroom. My students have always enjoyed learning about the musicians behind the famous songs that they have heard. It features the Super Six Reading Strategies and listening activities of all of the musicians/bands in the unit. The Kings and Queens of Rock and Pop Musician Study is a great way to compliment the learning in the classroom. Students enjoy the chance to choose a musician/band to research. My students seem to have a competition about trying to find the weirdest pieces of information to complete the “interesting information” section. I have had a real giggle reading what they find – and learning a little myself!
