Next week, I start back at school for the 2018 school year. Call me crazy, but I am really looking forward to going back to school!
If you have been following this blog for a while, this year the return to work is rather special for me. Last year I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and because of the treatments – surgery and chemo, I was not able to go to work. When I return next week, it will be a total of 6 months off work. This has been the longest time off I have ever had. And, I sincerely hope that I never have a health reason to take that much time off ever again.
Throughout this whole journey I consider myself very lucky. Lucky because I had enough sick leave up my sleeve that I have had paid time off. Lucky because I have coped really well through every step of the journey. Believe me, the first 4 rounds of chemo were absolutely revolting, but even after losing all my hair, I coped. Lucky that I have had amazing caregivers throughout – the doctors, nurses, my family and friends have all been wonderful. Lucky because I had private health cover that has allowed for a seamless transition between all stages of my treatment. And lucky because I have learnt a lot about myself and what I want from life.
